Trichocereus peruvianus cv. ‘Carbonell’ | ‘Blue Torch’, ‘Peruvian Torch’ | Live plant

(syn. Echinopsis peruviana, Trichocereus macrogonus subsp. peruvianus, Trichocereus macrogonus var. peruvianus)

Freaky Cacti are honoured to offer limited stocks of this impressive Trichocereus peruvianus cv. ‘Carbonell’, cloned from a mother plant originally gifted to us by the incredible Suri! Available as live, well-rooted plants.

An attractive columnar cactus originally found growing in Peru, Trichocereus peruvianus (also known as the ‘Peruvian Torch’) is synonymous with Echinopsis peruviana and Trichocereus macrogonus var. peruvianus, and is a sister to the famous ‘San Pedro’ (Trichocereus pachanoi) and ‘Bolivian Torch’ (Trichocereus bridgesii). It’s often confused with the related Trichocereus cuzcoensis and is a wonderful, blue-green-coloured cactus. ‘Carbonell’, the variety listed here for sale, is a hefty, vigorous type which was wildcrafted from an abandoned restaurant in Catalonia, Spain. We really do cherish this plant – it’s a beautiful specimen indeed, well-deserving of a place in any cactus garden!

Peruvianus has been used by humans for literally thousands of years, for example, as an ornamental, for religious practice and in traditional medicine (human and veterinary). Like many other columnar Trichocereus species, it can handle far lower temperatures than many other cacti and is consequently easy to grow indoors and outdoors in several climate zones. Averaging around thirty centimetres of new growth per year (in ideal conditions), these healthy plants will soon grow big and strong, provided you offer them a little fertile, free-draining soil and regular water!
