Trichocereus bridgesii cv. ‘Antonio #1’ | ‘Bolivian Torch’ | Live plant

(syn. Echinopsis lageniformis cv. ‘Antonio #1)

We’re rather proud to other these lovely Trichocereus bridgesii cv. ‘Antonio #1’ genetics, as all such plants descend (via cloning) from a plant which we grew from seed in Spain and later named after a relative of ours. All of these great cacti are available from our shop as healthy, well-rooted plants.

Found growing naturally in the high deserts of Bolivia, Trichocereus bridgesii (synonymous with Echinopsis lageniformis and known informally as ‘Achuma’, ‘Bolivian Torch’ and ‘Wachuma’) is an impressive columnar cactus which grows to approximately five metres in height. Its magnificent, glaucous to green stems reach a mature diameter of roughly twenty centimetres or so (notably skinnier than are many of its close relatives among the genus, such as Trichocereus pachanoi and Trichocereus peruvianus) and are covered with rather evenly-spaced spines – up to approximately eight centimetres in length.

We grow Trichocereus bridgesii cv. ‘Antonio #1’ (and similar cacti too) in a well-drained, mildly acidic to mildly alkaline soil mix, made up of a mixture of approximately equal parts soil and perlite (or similar substitute). We sincerely advise only watering cacti when the top few centimetres of soil is totally dried out (stick a finger in a centimetre or two deep and see if any soil adheres to it) and – above all! – avoiding frosts by any means necessary! Fertilise your plants a few times each growing season with your preferred product, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
