Trichocereus andalgalensis v. rubriflorus | Live plant

(syn. Cereus andalgalensis, Cereus huascha v. rubriflorus, Echinopsis andalgalensis, Lobivia andalgalensis, Trichocereus huascha v. rubriflorus)

Freaky Cacti’s happy to offer well-rooted Trichocereus andalgalensis v. rubriflorus cacti in our shop! This is a rarely available, red-flowered variety of Trichocereus andalgalensis (syn. Cereus andalgalensis, Cereus huascha var. rubriflorus, Echinopsis andalgalensis, Lobivia andalgalensis, Trichocereus huascha var. rubriflorus).

Bright-green in colour, Trichocereus andalagensis grows to a maximum height of approximately forty or so centimetres and a diameter of roughly six centimetres. It’s a prolific “pupper” with fine, yellow spines up to roughly four centimetres long. First collected near Andalgala (hence its name), in Catamarca province, Argentina, andalgalensis produces fabulous flowers – either red or yellow (dependent on variety), which grow to a maximum of around eight and a half centimetres long, numbering them among the smallest of Trichocereus flowers. The red-flowered type is called Trichocereus andalgalensis var. rubriflorus; the yellow, Trichocereus andalgalensis var. flaviflorus.

As with most Trichocereus cactus species, these plants are very easy to grow in USDA Hardiness Zones 8-11. Their main requirements consist of high humidity levels, free-draining (mildly acidic to mildly alkaline) soil and sufficient light, water and nutrients. Space your cacti roughly three metres apart to allow them enough room to reach maturity.
